Back to Business

Most of the day was spent at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance beginning with blood work, radiation and a bone marrow biopsy. I'm sure Dave will sleep well tonight. He actually ate pretty good this evening, but I'm sure he was hungry after fasting all day. I'm afraid that these next few weeks are really going to drag on for us, but then I remind myself how fortunate we are to be able to be here in Seattle, and for all the great care Dave is receiving. It is a remarkable place.

Radiation, Day One

Dave had his first session of radiation today. The radiation, itself, wasn't too bad, but Dave has been nauseated most of the afternoon. Anti-nausea meds seem to help though. He has lost a few more lbs, so he really has to concentrate on his eating and drinking higher calorie drinks. He says he just doesn't have an appetite, so tomorrow he will start on a medication to increase his appetite. We are hoping that helps. I had to buy him a new pair of jeans as he was having a hard time keeping his old ones up! We did find out today that Sept. 28th is his last radiation and we have an appointment with the doctor on Oct. 1st - looks like we will be home that week.

Adjustment

Even though it hasn't been discussed, I can tell that Dave hasn't quite relaxed since being back here in Seattle. It's amazing the difference in each of us, unintentionally. I am much more "uptight" and Dave is less active and has less of an appetite. I, on the other hand, can't seem to stop eating. I guess there is just no place like home for feeling better. Tomorrow morning, 7:30 a.m., Dave has lab, then his first radiation treatment at 8:00, and nurse visit at 10:30. Friday we do know that he has lab at 12 p.m. and bone marrow biopsy at 12:30, which he isn't looking forward to, and I can't say that I blame him. That's pretty much it for the day; guess I'll go eat!!

Back in Seattle

After a much-needed "break" from medical issues, we got back here to reality this afternoon. Dave drove the entire distance and did great. Being home was really something we both needed! Tomorrow we will settle back into our routine and then on Thurs. Dave has his first spot radiation treatment. He will have 15-20 treatments, one a day, Mondays through Fridays. He will then be released back to his oncologist, Dr. Hunt, in Kalispell for follow-up. This upcoming radiation shouldn't be as hard on Dave as what he has undergone previously. I'm still working on fattening him up!
