Out of Hospital

CELEBRATE - Dave was discharged from the hospital! It is also the 2 wk. anniversary of his stem cell transplant. He's pretty weak, but happy to be back at the hotel where he's feeling more normal. He doesn't have any appetite, but that should come around within a couple of days. He will still be on the CADD pump for hydration, but also needs to push the fluids orally. I think that is the biggest challenge right now. He will have a lab draw at the SCCA tomorrow followed with a clinic appointment and a meeting with the social worker. Every day he will be followed with lab and clinic visits. He had a great view from his hospital room of the Blue Angels practicing for their performance this weekend. We are also able to see them from our room here at the hotel!

  1. Dave, my favorite food when I started eating was Campbells chicken noodle soup (still is). I don't know what it was but those noodles and soup really hit the spot. I also liked maderin oranges, slices of apple and aged cheddar cheese. My taste buds were pretty well shot, but I could taste something which each of the above foods. Congratulations on your stem cells taking hold, up and running. The fatigue is normal, but try to do something every day. The first week, I was home I made it from the Marriot to the end of the Fred Hutchinson's buildings. If your appetite doesn't come back in the improve in the next 3 to 4 days, have them check you for pseudo graft versus host disease of the gut. It is not supposed to happen to autologous stem cell transplants, but guess who was lucky enough to get it. The medications they put me on helped right away. Keep up the great work. Ann and I both knew you would make it. GlenH
